Artist: Kami

San Diego born and raised, Kami’s been making art since she could hold a pencil, taking her first formal classes at age seven and never looking back. By middle school, she was that kid doodling band members, anime, and cartoons instead of paying attention in class – an “emo anime nerd” era she’s still proudly living in.

At 18, her first tattoo – a memorial for her beloved bunny, Bucky – made her realize she wanted to give people the same kind of meaningful, forever art. That’s where “KJBunny” comes from: KJ for her name, Kami Joy, and bunny for Bucky.

With a fine arts degree, art show awards, and an apprenticeship under Frankie, the co-owner of Sugoi! Tattoos & Piercings, Kami now loves to create bold illustrative blackwork tattoos with a dark, gothic flair.

When she’s not tattooing, you’ll find her skating with her friends at Balboa Park, spoiling her two golden retrievers, or watching her favorite show, South Park!
